Dead 111-year-old Creator of Latin transcription of Chinese

Since 1979, Pinyin is used in all countries as the official Latin transcription of the Chinese language .

Chinese linguist Zhou Yuguan, who created a Latin transcription of Chinese (Pinyin), died in China on Saturday, 14 January.

The day before he celebrated its 111 anniversary.

Yuhuan was born in 1906 in Changzhou (Jiangsu province). He was fluent in English, Japanese and French. His work on pentinum linguist began in 1955, and in 1958-m transcription was adopted by the all-China Assembly of people’s representatives — the highest legislative body of the PRC.

Since 1979, Pinyin is used in all countries as the official Latin transcription of the Chinese language.
