Dutch movement has filed a lawsuit against the government because of the referendum on Ukraine
The HAGUE, January 13. /Offset. TASS Vitaly Chugin/. Dutch movement “Forum for democracy”, the initiators of the referendum on the ratification of the Association Agreement between the EU and Ukraine, has filed a lawsuit against the government. This is stated in a statement released by the organization.
Ukraine will not receive candidate status for EU membership
“Article 11 of the act on the consultative referendum provides that, after the vote was held, the results must be either approved as soon as possible, or ignored, the report says. – Other options exist”. Instead, the Dutch government started negotiations in the EU and with the political parties in the country on what to do next. This, according to the “Forum for democracy” is a violation of applicable law.
“We urge the court not to, the court has determined whether the Association Agreement to be ratified or not, – emphasized in movement . – We go to court, because we believe that the actions of Prime Minister Mark Rutte (i.e. negotiations that have been going on for more than nine months) are contrary to the law.”
The Advisory referendum on the question of Association with Ukraine was held in the Netherlands April 6. According to its results against the ratification of the document voted approximately 61% of the electorate, however, despite the will of the people, the government did not immediately make the decision to abandon the ratification of the document. Instead, Prime Minister mark Rutte has set a target to discuss with European colleagues and try to find a “legally binding solution which would allow to ratify the document, but took into account the concerns of people who voted against”. Final Declaration of the summit of the EU on Ukraine, adopted on 15 December and became one solution.
However, the government, according to the leader of the “Forum for democracy” Thierry Bode, had no right to initiate the adoption of this decision. “For any of the amendments has no place, in this situation, compromise is impossible”, – he said. This process, according to Bode, it is important not only in itself, but is of great importance for future referendums. “Clarity needs to be paid now, to continue such situations do not arise,” – said the head of the movement.
The decision taken at the EU summit, must still be approved by the Dutch Parliament. And if in the lower house Rutte sure to obtain a majority in the upper house the situation is ambiguous. Much will depend on the position of the party “Christian democratic appeal”, which, on the one hand, maintains the Association, but believes that does not take into account the results of voting impossible.
