Ex-Deputy of Parliament of Moldova is accused of espionage for Russia

For the first time in the modern history of the Republic of Moldova criminal case about espionage in favour of another state, and of treason.
Law enforcement bodies of Moldova have detained the former Deputy of Parliament of Iurie Bolboceanu, who is accused of spying for Russia and treason.

“According to law enforcement information, Iurie Bolboceanu was recruited by one of the agents of foreign intelligence services a few years ago. For the first time in the modern history of the Republic of Moldova criminal case about espionage in favour of another state, and of treason,” – said the Prosecutor Vitalie Busuioc.
According to the investigation, Bolboceanu was collecting classified information representing state secret, for the subsequent transfer of foreign agents . Busuioc is also reported that ex-Deputy was recruited by the Russian intelligence services and kept in touch through the Deputy military attache at the Russian Embassy in Moldova.
The Prosecutor’s office for combating organized crime reported that in the investigation there is evidence of secret meetings Iurie Bolboceanu with foreign intelligence agents, during which he passed the information on electronic media, receiving as a reward a large sum of money.
During searches in the house at Bolboceanu, the investigators found 23 thousand dollars in cash, as well as electronic media.
The court of the Buiucani sector of the Moldovan capital verdict about the arrest of Iurie Bolboceanu for a period of 30 days. If the guilt of the detained is proved, he faces a prison term of 12 to 20 years.
