For the first time in science: the unique evidence of the existence of the ruby sea dragon
A group of scientists managed to capture several not long ago, the public representatives of the family of a needle fish – the ruby sea dragon.
According to “Russian conversation” this kind of animal was identified in 2015. At that time, the workers of science have investigated the variation due to exhibit in the Australian Museum.
Scientists have conducted a DNA, which was taken from samples discovered in the period from 1919 to 2007.
At the same time managed to get the fact of existence of this marine species.
The closest relatives of the sea dragons are sea horses. As of today, scientists have documented the life of three kinds: ordinary (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus), leafy (Phycodurus eques) and ruby (Phyllopteryx dewysea).
The latter more similar to their cousins the species of skates.
It is assumed that the habitat of the ruby dragons lies at 50-meter depth . Thanks to a bright red color, they are well camouflaged in the water.
