YEKATERINBURG, April 21. /TASS/. Artistic Director of the Mariinsky theatre, conductor Valery Gergiev intends shortly to initiate discussion on the issue of state support for cultural projects in the regions of the Russian Federation. He said this to journalists in Yekaterinburg, where we arrived with the program of the XVI Moscow Easter festival.

“The main thing today is to find wise and appropriate proportion: that the state can provide and what is required to provide the Director of the creative organization. This conversation first, deserves a very detailed and thorough assessment within the circle of professionals, without drawing first, maybe the critics”, he said . “I think even pronitsaemosti, maybe that kind of talk. It should not go somewhere in 20 years, it needs to take place in the next 4-5 months,” – said Gergiev.

He noted that traveling through the cities of Russia in the framework of the Moscow Easter festival, gets an idea about the status of culture in the regions. “No need to build extremely expensive rooms, but definitely need to build that in Omsk there was room, there’s good news, but there are problems that we know of. I am overwhelmed by these requests and appeals, so I want to move, because I don’t want to formally enrolled in the Collegium of the Ministry of culture of the Russian Federation and especially in the Council for culture (Council for culture and arts under the President of the Russian Federation – approx. TASS),” – said Gergiev, adding that, in particular, “Yekaterinburg needs a real, modern hall”.

“We stopped producing pianos or even a piano, practically ceased. The Tchaikovsky Concerto in which country wrote for whom? What is it to play in German? The big problem really, still, maybe more than the lack of rooms, we have no pianos, and when played on instruments, “Moscow”, “Estonia”, “Kuban” piano in my house, “Rostov-don”, “Tyumen”, “Leningrad”, “Red October”, nothing,” he said.

XVI Moscow Easter festival runs from April 16 to may 9, to celebrate 135 years since the birth of Russian composer and conductor Igor Stravinsky. Three weeks of the festival, the musicians of the Symphony orchestra of the Mariinsky theatre conducted by Gergiev will be performing in more than 20 regions of Russia. The culmination of the festival will be the traditional concert on Poklonnaya hill on 9 may.

In Yekaterinburg, the artists will give two concerts. In the District house of officers to soldiers and their families will be the “Stradivari-ensemble” of the Mariinsky theatre. In the Sverdlovsk state academic Philharmonic society, according to Gergiev, will be presented “unusual program”: Symphony No. 4 by Austrian composer Gustav Mahler and symphonic poem by Richard Strauss “Life of hero”.
