In Brussels on Monday, July 17, began the first stage of consultation on the upcoming British exit from the European Union. In the first half of the day will meet the chief negotiator from the European Commission Michel Barnier and Minister for the UK out of the EU David Davis.

Anticipating negotiations, Barnier told reporters that the parties intend to “delve into the heart of the issue.” It is necessary to harmonize, “in order to achieve good progress.” According to Davis, it is necessary to determine the existing differences, to be able to overcome them. “Now we are talking about how to get started and to make these negotiations successful,” – said the British Minister.

Today also there will be meetings of several working groups . In particular, it is planned to discuss the legal issues in the UK of citizens of EU countries, the financial requirements of the European Commission to the British government, and the status of Northern Ireland. It is expected that this round of consultation will last until Thursday.

Earlier, Barnier criticized the proposals of the London rights for EU citizens as too vague.
