In Germany, allowed the intervention of the Russian Federation at elections to the Bundestag
EU urged to be prepared for Russia’s attempts to influence the elections in 2017.
Political parties of Germany should take steps to protect themselves from third-party intervention and manipulation during the election campaign before the elections to the Bundestag in 2017. The Chairman of the Bundestag Norbert Lammert said in an interview with the German publications of the media group Funke on Saturday, January 14.
He noted that it is not necessary to experience the illusion that no one will try to interfere in the election to the Bundestag. “Used all the technical possibilities”, – said Lammert, so “you need to take on massive technical and financial costs for his defense”.
Supporters of political parties and candidates should refrain from online distribution of false information and consider this as a minimal contribution to the struggle for transparency of the election campaign, said Lammert . Also need actions that help prevent the emergence of fake messages and news to achieve political goals, said the President of the Bundestag.
European Parliament President Martin Schulz, in turn, urged the EU to be ready to Russia’s attempts to influence the elections that should take place in several countries of the EU in 2017.
“If Russia tried to interfere in U.S. elections, this should be our Wake-up call”, said Schulz on Saturday, January 14, in an interview with the newspaper Die Welt.
Everything must be done to exclude foreign intervention in the elections in Europe, stated the politician.
