Not less than 60 billion tons of household waste had accumulated in Russia. The volume of recycling is now less than in the USSR. This was stated by the special representative of the President of Russia on environmental issues, ecology and transport Minister Sergei Ivanov, Interfax reported.
“We had not got around to garbage. Plus we have a huge area. If we were a very small country, we probably would have sooner thought, because the land would be left, everything would be littered with debris, but we, thank God, the area is large,” said Ivanov at the III international Yalta economic forum (AMEF) in the Crimea.
He cited the data of experts according to which in Russia accumulated about 60 billion tons of household waste.
“I’m not talking about construction, industrial, – which, roughly speaking, lying on the ground and already is a very decent area” – said Ivanov complained that Russia now recycles less trash than in the Soviet Union.
“Then processed to 50% of paper, cardboard – paper, now 7%. The drop is very big,” acknowledged Putin’s special envoy, adding that if Russia will actively recycle paper, you have to cut down less forests.
As reported Корреспондент.netin Ukraine there are 36 thousand of legal and illegal dumps, debris from which would be enough to cover evenly the whole territory of the occupied Crimea and war-torn Donetsk and Lugansk regions.
