Maria Sharapova withdrew from the tournament in Cincinnati because of an injury

TASS, 13 Aug. Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova withdrew from the tournament in Cincinnati due to a hand injury. This is the official website of the tournament.

“I arrived in Cincinnati the day before, ready to play. However, following the recommendations of doctors on the eve of the U.S. Open, I, unfortunately, have to refuse to participate in the tournament because of an injury of the left forearm, which he received at Stanford. I want to thank the tournament organizers for giving me a special invitation. I hope to be able to play here next year,” said Sharapova.

In the first round, the Russian was supposed to meet with the winner of “Roland Garros” 2017 Elena Ostapenko of Latvia. Sharapova is a 171-e a place in a rating of Female tennis Association and got into the main draw of the tournament thanks to the invitation of the organizers. In early August, Sharapova was also unable to continue the performance at the tournament in Toronto (Canada), appearing before the match in the second round.

Russian spring resumed performances after a 15-month suspension for violating anti-doping rules. In April she reached the semifinals of the tournament in Stuttgart in the next tournament – in Madrid – the Russian was defeated in the second round. In mid-may, Sharapova played in Rome, where he reached the second round, but withdrew from the tournament because of a thigh injury.

Tournament in Cincinnati will be held from 12 to 20 August. The prize Fund of the tournament amounts to $7.8 million
