Media: Tehran has agreed with Damascus missile attack on terrorists in Syria

MOSCOW, June 19. /TASS/. Missile attack of the Case “guards of Islamic revolution” (IRGC, an elite component of the Iranian armed forces) plotted against concentrations of terrorists in the area of the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor, was agreed with the Syrian government.

This was stated by the official representative of the IRGC Ramezan Sharif.

“The launch of these missiles had been agreed with Syria, and the missile entered Syrian airspace via Iraq,” said Sharif, whose words are quoted in the Monday, Iranian news Agency Tasnim.

According to him, during the operation codenamed “Laylat al-Qadr”, the IRGC fired at the terrorists in Deir-ez-Zor, six ballistic missiles, medium-range. They were aimed at various targets at a distance of 650-700 km. the Missiles successfully hit targets, among which was the headquarters of militants and ammunition depots, said Sharif .

He also stressed that the missile attacks were made in response to the recent terrorist attacks in Tehran, committed by militants of the terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG, is prohibited in Russia). As previously reported, Iran has dealt a blow to the militants in Syria on June 18. The missiles were fired from bases of the IRGC in the provinces of Kermanshah and Kurdistan. Terrorist attacks in Tehran took place on 7 June. Two groups of militants attacked the Iranian Parliament and the mausoleum of Imam Khomeini, near Iran’s capital. Victims of attacks were 18 people, about 50 were injured.

According to the commander of aerospace forces of the revolutionary guards General Amir Ali Hajizade, the accuracy of missiles is confirmed by data obtained from UAVs. “From the outskirts of Damascus in the area of the missile strike was aimed drones. We received their information in real-time. All the missiles accurately hit the specified goal,” said the General.

According to him, the main purpose of the strike was a small building where there were terrorists. “Direct hit in this building from a distance of 700 kilometers – a clear message to terrorists about what is the level of Iranian capabilities,” – said Hajizade.

The missile attack was against missiles “Gem and Zulfakar,” said the Fars news Agency with reference to own sources. The first successful test of the missile “Gem” range which is 800 kilometers, took place on 20 August 2010.

Solid “Zulfakar”, capable of hitting targets at a distance of 700 kilometres, was first presented at a military parade in Bandar Abbas in September 2016. This ballistic missile from the family of “Fateh” is the most accurate of Iranian missiles.
