Obama has extended for a year the American sanctions against Russia due to events in Ukraine

WASHINGTON, January 14. /Offset. TASS Anatoly Bochinin/. President Barack Obama, whose term expires on January 20, on Friday extended for a year the sanctions against Russia due to events in Ukraine. This is stated in common of the White house documents.

“The actions and policies of the government of the Russian Federation”, according to Obama, “continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States”. “So I decided that it was necessary to continue the regime (sanctions) a state of emergency in accordance with the decree 13660 against Ukraine”, – said the President.

Thus, sanctions can be renewed for another year. The decree was published on 6 March 2014 .

Only against Russia because of events in Ukraine was a presidential decree USA – between 16 and 20 March 2014 and from 19 December of the same year in the Crimea.

Under the U.S. sanctions fell a number of Russian citizens, including officials and representatives of the government of former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych. In addition, restrictive measures have affected some of the major Russian entrepreneurs, several companies and the leadership of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk national republics.
