One third of patent applications in 2016 came from foreigners

KRASNOYARSK, April 21. /TASS/. Foreign applicants filed with Rospatent in 2016 18.5 thousand patent applications on inventions, which is one third of the total. This was announced by the head of the Federal service for intellectual property (Rospatent) Grigory Ivliev, speaking at a session of the Krasnoyarsk economic forum.

“Foreign patents account for a third of all filings that are submitted. If 60 thousand applications – total number (filed in 2016 applications for inventions – approx. TASS), 18.5 thousand is for foreign applicants who close the market, especially pharmaceutical,” – said Ivliev.

He added that at the moment of entering the Russian market of manufacturers of foreign products try immediately to issue a patent in the territory of the Russian Federation . The primary patent for an invention in the country provides the global priority of the inventor for his invention, but in order to make a profit for a product in another country, you must submit an application to the national patent office.

“In our market there are a huge number of patientsafety, but it’s still less than in India, where foreign patents – 90% of the market”, – said Ivliev.

Krasnoyarsk economic forum will be held from 20 to 22 April. His main subject is “the Russian economy: agenda 2017-2025”. TASS is the strategic partner of the forum.
