Parliament approved the abolition of regulations on the reduction of the number of prosecutors in 2018

The Verkhovna Rada adopted the bill, which repeals the previously adopted rate of reduction in 2018 in the number of prosecutors to 10 thousand people, while the total number of employees of prosecution bodies shall be 15 thousand people .

As the correspondent of Agency “Interfax-Ukraine”, the first reading of bill (No. 7160) on amendments to the law on Prosecutor’s office about the optimization of the number of employees of the prosecution were supported by 229 people’s deputies at the plenary session on Thursday.

The bill proposes the deletion of article 14 the provision that from 1 January 2018, the number of prosecutors should be reduced to 10 thousand people. At the same time propose to keep only the part of this article, which States that the number of prosecutors it is no more than 15 thousand people.

“Today, the total number of prosecutors is (according to the law can be – if) some 15 thousand In the law, which we adopted earlier, determined that prosecutors should not be less than 10 thousand office of public Prosecutor offers within the total population to give the opportunity to the attorney-General to determine how much will be prosecutors, how many investigators, and other employees”, – said the member of the Committee on legislative support of law enforcement Yuriy Miroshnichenko (Opposition bloc) with the rostrum of the Parliament during the discussion of the document.

As noted in the explanatory Memorandum to the bill, the article about the reduction in the number of prosecutors appeared in July 2015.

In an accompanying document says that as of October 2017 the number of prosecutors is 11, 313 persons out of the total number of employees to 15 thousand people.

The authors of the amendments explain that if the number of prosecutors will be reduced to 10 thousand, as suggested by the law, in 2018, that is 1313 people, it “will inevitably lead to an increase and before undue stress on them.”
