Putin awarded Spassky the honorary diploma for popularization of chess in the country

MOSCOW, February 16. /Offset. TASS Andrei Kartashov/. Russian President Vladimir Putin awarded the 10-th world chess champion Boris Spassky and a diploma for popularization of chess in the country on the occasion of his 80th birthday. Congratulations to the President of the Russian Federation read out by his assistant, Secretary of the state Council of the Russian Federation Igor Levitin.

The gala evening was held in the Central house of chess player in Moscow.

“Talent, skill, ability creatively and think outside the box helped you to conquer the chess Olympus. I should also mention the educational activities, popularization of chess among young people”, – the statement says Putin.

Also Levitin handed him the diploma “For a great job to promote chess in the country, the establishment of schools and clubs .”

Spassky turned 80 years old on January 30. Thursday to congratulate him came the Grand masters, politicians, businessmen and lovers of chess.
