Resident “SKOLKOVO” protected passengers “Aeroflot” from the actions of fraudsters

Through the use of innovative solutions in the field of brand protection, information security service of “Aeroflot” and the resident “SKOLKOVO” company Group-IB has stopped cheating airline passengers.

The first post with the symbols of airlines appeared in social networks on 4 June. Aeroflot was not the only one, just the attack of Scam has been 19 brands, including large international companies and a few chain stores offering online shopping (Delta Air Lines, Lufthansa, Rolex, Spar, Tesco).

Aeroflot immediately after the appearance of the fake resources has notified its customers in social media about deception, releasing an official press release.

Group-IB promptly blocked the fraudulent resources and already in the evening of June 6, false information was deleted. Block resources managed due to the unique competencies of the CERT-GIB to work with foreign partners, as it turned out, hosting phishing websites were located in USA . During the preliminary investigation revealed that scammers have used someone else’s intellectual property in order to mislead airline customers and customers of other well-known brands with the goal of redirecting them to third-party resources and cheating the advertising traffic. The attackers used a partnership model, part of the resources to which the users were redirected contained malware.

The head of the direction “brand Protection” Group-IB Dmitry Rusakov told that cases where fraudsters use a company’s brand, logo and corporate colors, if not completely copy the site, is not uncommon.
