Russia terminated the agreement with Ukraine on the completion of the Khmelnitsky nuclear power plant
MOSCOW, January 13. /TASS/. Agreement between the government of the Russian Federation and Ukraine about cooperation in construction of units 3 and 4 at Khmelnitsky NPP has expired. This is stated in the official message of the Russian foreign Ministry, published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
“Terminated the agreement between the government of the Russian Federation and Ukraine about cooperation in construction of units 3 and 4 at Khmelnitsky NPP, signed in Kiev on 9 June 2010”, – the document says.
The agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the government of the Russian Federation on cooperation signed on 9 June 2010 and ratified by the Verkhovna Rada on 12 January 2011. The document stipulates that the Russian party provides financing to the extent necessary for the design construction and commissioning of the units.
In 2015, the government of Ukraine initiated the denunciation of the agreement, and the Verkhovna Rada on 16 September 2015, supported this proposal. Then the MPs adopted the law on recognition of the fact that terminated the law of Ukraine “About location, designing and construction of units 3 and 4 at Khmelnitsky NPP”.
Khmelnitsky NPP is located in the town of Netishyn. In its composition are already operating two power units VVER-1000 with total capacity of 2000 MW (connected in 1987 and 2004).
