Shoigu: Russian defense Ministry appreciates the contribution of de Mistura to resolve the situation in Syria
MOSCOW, February 16. /TASS/. The Ministry of defence values the contribution of special representative of the UN Secretary General to Syria Staffan de Mistura to resolve the situation in the country, in particular in the framework of the talks in Astana, said Minister of defense of Russia General of the army Sergei Shoigu.
“I would like to thank you for participating in the talks in Astana, you participated in the first meeting, today there is your representative. The issues discussed there, is very important because there discussed all that happens on earth and what we need to do to strengthen the world,” he said during the meeting with de Mistura.
The Minister noted that Russia has consistently cooperates with the United Nations across the spectrum of problems of the Syrian settlement .
Humanitarian aid to Syria
According to Shoigu, the defense Ministry expects that the UN will support humanitarian assistance to Syria and the elimination of barriers to delivery in this country of medicines and medical equipment.
“Of course, to us today, it is essential to continue the occupation process of establishing a peaceful life. Here, we hope that UN agencies, other humanitarian organizations in a fair and widespread distribution of humanitarian aid that comes into the territory of Syria,” – said Shoigu.
According to him, we are talking about Eastern ghouta, Deir-ez-Zor and other blocked areas.
“Of course, we cannot talk about the difficulties experienced by Syria everywhere, I’m not here to divide the opposition and the government. What experiences today the people of Syria in terms of medicines and medical equipment. And here we very much hope that with your help, with your support will be eliminated and removed those obstacles that currently exist for the supply of medicines and medical equipment,” – said the Minister.
“Is that today it is urgent to Syria to combat terrorism. Especially given the fact that many of the opposition groups, the Syrian opposition now fighting with terrorist groups”, – he stressed.

Shoigu said that Russia expects a speedy approval of the map of Syria, which will be precisely defined position of the moderate opposition and terrorist groups.

“I hope that today will be decided on compiling a single map of Syria and its approval cards, on which we in the end secure all the data that has been communicated to us by the Syrian opposition and the Syrian government, where we can accurately determine the location of the moderate opposition that joined the ceasefire, and those who joined him,” – said Shoigu.
According to the Minister, it is particularly important in the preparation of this document to identify the locations of groups of “Islamic state” and “Dzhebhat EN-Nusra” (a group banned in Russia).
“But it is especially important (to determine) where are the terrorists of ISIL (the former name “Islamic state” – approx. TASS) and “Dzhebhat EN-Nusra”, which we will continue the struggle together with the moderate opposition, and our allies – Turkey and Iran,” said Shoigu.
According to Shoigu, direct clashes between the Syrian army and the moderate opposition to date has completely eliminated thanks to the efforts of the conflict parties and the mediators.
“We look forward to further constructive dialogue with the opposition. In the end, what was achieved since 29 December (the introduction of ceasefire in Syria – approx. TASS), what we have witnessed today, but this picture is much better than it was before. We have has reduced the number of attacks, completely eliminated the direct clashes,” he said during the meeting with the special representative of the UN Secretary General on Syria Staffan de Mistura.
At the end of last year in all areas of Syria entered into force on the cessation of hostilities.
