State Department: US not invited to meeting on Syria

State Department spokesman stated that the United States was not invited to the talks on Syria in Astana.
Deputy press Secretary for the State Department mark Toner said that the United States had not received a formal invitation to a meeting in Astana on 23 January to resolve the situation in Syria, reports UKRINFORM.
“As far as I know, we haven’t received an official invitation to participate in the meeting in Astana,” − said Toner.
However, he noted that the us “continues to support all efforts aimed at further promotion of negotiations on the settlement (of the conflict in Syria – ed.) on the negotiations in Geneva.”
Toner reaffirmed that Washington is in contact on this issue with Moscow and Astana.
Earlier it was reported that about ten groups of the Syrian opposition said that the freeze preparing for the talks in the capital of Kazakhstan from-for violations by the Syrian authorities .
