The ex-President of the RAS Fortov intend on elections of the head of the Academy to support Sergeeva

MOSCOW, September 25. /TASS/. The former head of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) Vladimir Fortov will the election of a new President of the Academy to support the candidacy of Alexander Sergeyev.

“I asked for the floor in order to support the candidacy of Sergeyev to the post of President of the Russian Academy of Sciences”, – said academician Fortov himself on Monday at a General meeting of the RAS.

Fortov expressed confidence that the new President of the organization must be a great scientist, a man who is well respected, both scientists and the authorities. According to the former head of the Academy, Sergeev is such a “man with the world’s scientific reputation.” Former RAS President reminded that currently Sergeev deals with such a problem as the extreme optical fields and laser physics, and also contributed to the development of medical physics .

“I know that many of you were ready to support me in the last election. If I could, I would have these votes were given by academician Sergeev”, – finished his speech FORTS.

The election program includes Sergeeva theses such as the return of confidence and power to ran and the legislative regulation of the organization. According to the academician, RAS must carry out the mandatory examination of most major government decisions and projects, and the obligation of such examination must be fixed at the legislative level. In addition, Sergeyev said about the need to change the legal status of the RAS and to establish a Board of Trustees of the Academy, headed by the President.

Sergeyev also supports the modernization of the work of the Presidium of the RAS and include more young scientists. He speaks, and the substantial increase in government funding of science. The Federal Agency for scientific organizations, according to Sergeeva, has to do only administrative work.
