MOSCOW, January 13. /TASS/. The labour Ministry has prepared a bill adjustment may 1, 2018 the minimum wage (SMIC) and the minimum subsistence level. Document published on Saturday on the Federal portal of projects of normative-legal acts.

“The draft Federal law “On amendments to article 1 of the Federal law “About the minimum wage” is proposed to establish may 1, 2018, the minimum wage in the amount of 11 163 rubles a month, which is 100% of the subsistence minimum of able-bodied population for II quarter of 2017″, – stated in the explanatory note to the bill.

At the moment the minimum wage is set at 9 489 rubles per month, which is 85% of the minimum subsistence level. According to the Ministry, in April 2017, the number of workers with wages below the subsistence minimum amounted to 4 million people.

Russian President Vladimir Putin on 10 January during a conversation with workers of the Tver railcar plant said that the minimum wage will be increased to living wage from 1 January 2019 as previously planned, from may 1, 2018. The head of state stressed that the minimum wage will be constantly indexed and will not fall below the subsistence level.

Living wage and the minimum wage

The subsistence minimum is the cost of the minimum set of food, goods and services necessary to preserve health and human life. A living wage takes into account the required to pay monthly payments and fees. Today in Russia there are living wage for able-bodied person, pensioner and child.
