Zhukov: Golf in Russia is growing thanks to the inclusion in the Olympic program

MOSCOW, September 23. /Offset. TASS Andrei Kartashov/. The inclusion of Golf in the program of summer Olympic games contributed to the development of this sport in Russia. About TASS said the President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Alexander Zhukov.

In the program of the Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, Golf was presented for the first time after more than a century of interruption. Before that the last time this sport was present in the Olympic programme at the Olympic Games in 1904 in the American St. Louis, then took part in the tournament only men. The competition among women was not held in 1900 .

“Golf is developing in Russia, and this is due to the fact that it became an Olympic sport – said Zhukov. Every year several Golf clubs, more children there are in this sport, more and more kids at the Junior level. Golf is widespread in Russia and soon we except Verchenova will be more competitive athletes.”

Russian Maria Verchenova on the results of the Olympic tournament took 16 th place. On the final day of Verchenova managed to get the hole shot from the 142 meters. In Rio, it set a new lap record field both among men and among women – 62 strike.
