Deficit of foreign trade balance of Ukraine in 2017 reached $2.63 billion – state statistics service

Negative foreign trade balance of Ukraine in 2017 amounted to $2.63 billion, while in 2016, the foreign trade balance of the country was reduced to a surplus of $0.54 billion, reported the State statistics service (SSS) on Wednesday.

Based on previously published data, in the fourth quarter of last year the deficit was about of $1.42 billion – nearly 22 times more than in the fourth quarter of last year.

According to the state statistics service, in 2017 the export of goods and services increased by 16% to $52,33 billion, while imports by 23.3% to $54,96 billion.

State statistics service clarifies that the export to CIS countries increased by 9.2% to us $10,65 billion, while imports from them jumped by 31.2 per cent to $12,12 billion.

At the same time, in trade with the EU exports grew faster than imports, respectively to 26.7% (up to $20,05 billion) and 19.1 per cent ($23.3 billion), although balance is still negative .

In foreign trade goods, according to the state statistics service, the deficit last year increased 2.2 times to us $6,33 billion, whereas external trade in services surplus increased by 12% to $5,090 billion.

As reported, the surplus of foreign trade balance of Ukraine in 2016, declined 11.3% compared to the year 2015.
